No one is trying to paint a picture that says that serving God is easy…But that trying to serve God under law or performance is virtually impossible. Failure and endless frustration are the result. The wrong gospel has wrongly designed most of “church life today”. You can disagree, but I encourage you to meditate on grace for a while…
The sceptic may say. “But grace makes you sin”. The verses in the New Covenant declare the opposite is the case – Rom. 6:14 “under grace sin will not dominate me” – 1 Cor. 15:56 “the law empowers you to sin.” I.E. Grace will break the power of sin. If we don’t understand grace, law will make us sin, and we will use grace as an excuse to sin more. Imagine blaming grace (Jesus) for my sin!!! A preaching against sin mentality or sin-consciousness does the opposite to what we think. It dismantles our position of being Righteous in Christ and opens up unworthiness, condemnation and guilt. Sin-consciousness gets us to sin more. – Heb. 10
“When sin multiplies, grace multiplies even more” – grace wins the sin-battle. – Rom. 5:20 If we use the law or 10 commandment method of “Thou shalt not”, we will find our performance slip into sin even before we finish reading the line. If sin does not occur then, when the pressures of life come, sin comes too, and we only have to break one commandment in order to break them all. I would rather choose grace through faith working through me than the stress of the Big 10. Someone can say “This is not fair because I worked harder than you and it is not working for me.” When we live under law and competition we start up the engine called “Sin empowerment”. However, grace not only breaks the power of sin, but it covers more ground without performing. Paul said “It was not him doing it, but it was the grace of God working through him and he did more than the whole lot of them.” – 1 Cor. 15:10
